08/28/2010 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Bergesen tossed eight solid innings, helping the Baltimore Orioles beat the Angels, 3-1, in the opener of a three- game set.
Bergesen (6-9) gave up one run on four hits to win his third straight decision. The right-hander also struck out four batters and walked zero. Koji Uehara recorded his third save.
"I've been battling all year long," Bergesen said. "I am trying to put my bad starts behind me. It's a great feeling to have an outing like this."
Nick Markakis, Corey Patterson and Luke Scott each had an RBI for the Orioles, who had lost three of four coming in.
Trevor Bell (1-4) was solid in seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits to suffer the hard-luck loss. He also fanned three batters and walked one for Los Angeles, which has dropped four of five.
"I thought Trevor pitched well. He gave us a chance to win," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
The Orioles scored a run in the top of the first when Brian Roberts led off with a double, stole third and scored on Markakis' single to left.
The Angels responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Howie Kendrick and Alberto Callaspo singled to put men on the corners with one out. After Torii Hunter popped out, Kendrick crossed the plate on a balk.
Baltimore plated a run in the sixth to take the lead back. Josh Bell singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on Markakis' groundout, and scored on Scott's base hit.
The O's added another run in the eighth to make it a 3-1 game. Francisco Rodriguez gave up consecutive singles to Cesar Izturis and Bell before Izturis raced home when Patterson grounded into a fielder's choice.
Uehara gave up a two-out single to Callaspo in the ninth. A wild pitch allowed Callaspo to advance two bases but Hunter flied out to end the game.
Game Notes
The O's were without outfielder Adam Jones (left shoulder)...The Minnesota Twins acquired left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes from the Angels in exchange for cash or a player to be named later...The Orioles reinstated pitcher Jim Johnson from the 60-day disabled list and transferred pitcher Jason Berken to the 60-day disabled list...Bergesen improved to 3-5 in 10 road starts this season...Roberts left the game with a left hip strain.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
