Hoops aim to rebound from "crap" effort against TFC

09/07/2007 - Frisco, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - FC Dallas will try to bounce back from an effort defender Clarence Goodson said was "complete crap" on Saturday against Toronto FC.

Dallas was blown out in its last Major League Soccer game against D.C. United, 4-0, spoiling an anticipated showdown between two of the top teams in MLS.

Dallas rebounded on Tuesday to advance to the U.S. Open Cup final, and returns to MLS play with a chance to move into the top spot in the Western Conference.

If Dallas, just three points behind Houston, could pick an MLS team to bounce back against, Toronto would be the obvious choice.

Toronto, which is last in the Eastern Conference, has been shutout in seven in a row and hasn't scored in an league record 642 minutes. Toronto is winless in eight straight overall.

TFC has been decimated by injuries and learned Friday that top scorer Danny Dichio will miss two to four weeks with a foot injury. In addition, the club lost midfielder Andy Welsh to Blackpool of England's Championship this week, taking another option away from the club.

Dallas defender Chris Gbandi warned after the D.C. loss that the team usually gets down after losses, which could set the team up for a letdown against TFC. Toronto did win the teams' previous meeting, 4-0, on June 17.

"People are probably going to get mad at me for saying this but we get too crazy after a win and get way too down after losses around here. It was a bad loss," Gbandi said. "This season is a long season and it all depends on how well we bounce back from losses. The last few times, we haven't bounced back from them very well."

Brazilian playmaker Denilson should make his first start for Dallas, which is trying to snap a two-game losing streak. Denilson made his debut last week as a substitute.

Denilson will add another weapon to Dallas' potent attack, but it could also open more chances for Toronto to snap its scoring drought. The Hoops regularly push players forward and as a results have actually allowed three more goals this season than they've scored.

Although Toronto is missing some of its best players, it has created plenty of chances in its last few games but "we just couldn't get a break," TFC coach Mo Johnston said.

"I think it's most frustrating than anything. When you do work hard and you think you deserve something and you don't get it, it's frustrating," Toronto captain Jim Brennan said. "Now, the thing is we're a good group of guys we work hard for one another, we're all sticking together and we know it's going to come - it's a matter of just when."

"We're going through a little sticky patch at the moment," said Toronto midfielder Carl Robinson, who will miss the FC Dallas match while on national team duty with Wales. "Performance-wise I think we're playing well. Goals-wise we obviously cannot score. We're throwing kitchen sinks at teams and not scoring. It's that type of luck we're having at the moment."

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
