12/21/2006 - Bronx, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Yankees made it official on Thursday and welcomed free agent pitcher Andy Pettitte back to the Bronx with a one- year contract that includes a player option for 2008.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed, but reports out of New York two weeks ago had it worth $16 million for the 2007 campaign.

Pettitte is coming off a three-year stint with Houston, for which he posted a 37-26 record with a 3.38 earned run average. He spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Yankees and notched a mark of 149-78 with four World Series championships.

The 34-year-old lefty was 14-13 with a 4.20 ERA last season in a major league high 35 starts. He owns a 186-104 career record with a 3.81 ERA.

Pettitte, a two-time American League All-Star with the Yankees, ranks ninth on the club's all-time wins list with 149 and is fifth in strikeouts with 1,275.
